- 9/16/2024 - Tyson Amani began unversity studies at KCA University, studying Information
Technology.
- 8/5/2024 - Charles Gakwa Wanjiru came to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 5/6/2024 - Kelvin Mugure, our oldest, has arrived in the USA. He will start a work program
at his college later this month.
- 4/22/2024 - Ayub Otieno began a trade school course in masonry.
- 2/9/2024 - The upstairs of our new building is finished and furnished, and the outside patio is
completed.
- 1/8/2024 - Kelvin Mugure, our oldest, has been accepted into the College of the Ozarks in the
USA. He will be pursuing a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathmatics (STEM) degree.
- 12/26/2023 - We have had five graduations. Joseph Omondi and
Ian Njogu from grade school, Tyson Amani and
Ayub Otieno from high school, and Hezekiel Njuguna from IT college.
- 7/4/2022 - Our oldest boys have moved from the basement of the new building to the ground floor. Also, the library was moved into the vacated basement.
- 12/15/2021 - Our ten oldest boys have moved from the bunkhouse to the newly finished basement of the new building. Construction on the ground floor is in progress.
- 4/21/2021 - After receiving Kaimbu county approval of our architectural plans, we started on our new building.
- 11/13/2020 - Our basketball court has been completed.
- 12/23/2019 - One more orphaned boy, Maxwell Henry, came to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 12/20/2019 - Five new orphaned boys, Samuel David, Jaxson Owino, Sultan Musa, Timothy Ngewa and Allan Kuria came to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 8/15/2019 - A small storage building behind the Kitchen was completed. It is designed to store supplies for the Hall.
- 1/30/2019 - LP Gas has been piped into our Kitchen. The conversion from burning firewood has been completed.
- 1/23/2019 - The Dining/Meeting Hall has been completed. The lighting and electrical switches and outlets have been installed.
- 9/18/2018 - Haven installed a new Solar hot water for the kitchen sinks. Previously, the water had to be heated by firewood.
- 9/9/2018 - A church that is dear to us purchased a new washing machine for Haven. This will shorten the waiting time for the Haven family to wash a load of clothes.
- 8/18/2018 - A youth group in our community came to Haven for a work day. They cooked, washed, fixed and generally blessed us for an entire day!
- 7/19/2018 - Moved solar panels from Storage Building to the Dining Hall roof. This will give us better production and will make the panels easier to clean.
- 3/12/2018 - John Mwangi, a 3 year old boy, came home to live at Haven.
- 8/1/2017 - Began excavation for new dining hall/multi-purpose building adjoining the kitchen.
- 7/8/17 - Began excavation and construction on the kitchen retaining wall. This will stop soil encroachment.
- 3/27/17 - Two new boys, Charles Kisenge and
Collins Wayne, arrived to live at Haven.
- 1/2/17 - A new publication, Scripture Pills, was launched at
scripturepills.
- 7/12/16 - Upgrades to our playground were completed with the addition of a set of monkey bars, a swing and a seesaw.
- 5/6/16 - Two new boys, Allan Luke and
John Paul, came to live at Haven. Each of them had been abandoned and the whereabouts of their families are unknown.
- 4/15/16 - One year and nine months after construction began, we began cooking in our new kitchen.
We permanently moved everything from the temporary kitchen. This is a welcome change as there is more space in which to work and the Jikos (cookers) are super energy efficient consumers of
firewood and Biogas.
- 4/10/16 - New Storage Building was completed, except for painting and retaining walls.
We gathered all our tools and supplies and moved them into the new building.
- 8/15/15 - Converted our Borehole (water well) pump to solar power. This will solve our "dirty" and
unreliable electricity problem and save well more than $100/month in electricity costs.
- 8/14/15 - Returned from Kenya after Janice, Phil, three friends from Houston and 24 friends
from Inheritance World Ministries Inc. met at Haven on the Hill to work on the kitchen building, install solar power for the water well, host a vacation Bible school
at the local elementry school and much more.
- 2/20/15 - Kennedy Kamau, four years of age, came to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 8/19/2014 - Returned from a two week mission trip to Haven where we hosted
five orphanages for a day of VBS and fun.
- 8/16/14 - Four new boys, Brian Mutuku Mwangi,
Tony Muene, Nicholas Olando and Joseph Omondi,
came home to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 4/10/14 - Began escavating and laying pipe for a drainage system designed
to stop and prevent soil erosion at Haven.
- 1/13/14 - Three year old Albert Gitau came home to live at
Haven on the Hill.
- 1/13/14 - Construction started on our new kitchen building.
- 12/1/13 - Our water tank storage capacity was increased from 10,000 liters to 20,000 liters.
- 9/27/13 - Ian Njogu and
Moses Sipi, our two newest boys, came home to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 8/17/13 - Kelvin and
Hezekiel, our two oldest boys, have each been accepted into boarding school. They have both
consistently finished at the top of their classes.
- 7/21/13 - Our cow Cristine gave birth to a girl calf.
This is good news because the calf can give milk some day.
- 5/30/13 - The biogas system
, which turns cow waste into gas usable for cooking, is in operation.
- 11/12/12 - The top floor of the Haven family building is completed. Now there is room for another Haven family of 15 children.
- 5/25/12 - The Haven library received two new laptops. Now the older boys can learn to type!
- 1/31/12 - Kelvin Kelly, our 15th boy, came home to live at Haven.
- 12/7/11 - Christine, our second cow at Haven, gave birth to a male calf, her second.
- 11/23/11 - Mary, our first cow at Haven, gave birth to a male calf, her first. We should be having our own fresh milk at Haven
in a few days.
- 11/2/11 - Brought two more boys, Collins Muna
and Lawrence Kavai, home to Haven on the Hill.
- 10/3/11 - Received first two cows, Mary and Christine. Both of them are pregnant.
- 8/28/11 - Upper floor walls of Dorm2 are complete.
- 8/28/11 - Cow house construction is complete.
- 8/20/11 - Our newest boy, Fred Musyoka, came home to live at Haven on the Hill.
- 6/15/11 - Began construction of the walls for Dorm2, the upper story of the new house.
- 6/1/11 - Began construction of a pen for cows at Haven on the Hill.
- 5/17/11 - Completed construction of new building. Received six more boys,
Ayub Otieno, Simon Phillip, James Macharia,
Erick Maina, Ramod Chege and
David Mungai, as well as and new mom Elizabeth, into Haven on the Hill, making a total of twelve children.
Moved the entire family into new building.
- 7/12/10 - Phil and Janice returned from Kenya. A mission team from Inheritance World Ministries Inc. of 32 people helped us build the ground floor wall of the new building. Also, we held a five day Vacation Bible School at the local elementry school with ~250 children and� gave blankets and Bibles out in the community. It was a wonder to behold!
- 3/30/10 - Began construction of new building at Haven on the Hill designed to provide a home for 30+ children.
- 11/15/09 - Water tank and borehole project completed. We now have well water hooked up to the home.
- 9/15/09 - Began construction of Laundry Room and Bunk House which will provide housing for visitors.
- 7/21/09 - two new boys at Haven on the Hill!

- 6/30/09 - Our first missionary from the USA begins a 3 month stay at Haven on the Hill.
- 6/10/09 - Haven on the Hill children's home NOW HAS ELECTRICITY!!!
- 11/7/08 - Phil and Janice travel to Kenya. Phil meets the boys. Borehole (water well) drilled.
- 6/16/08 - Janice brought the first 5 boys, Joshua Nzyoka,
Godfrey Owino, James Nganga, Kelvin Waithaka Nwgure and
John Wanjau Nwgure, into their new home at Haven on the Hill in Gacharage, Kenya.
The 8 year vision of opening up an orphanage in Kenya has come to pass!
- 5/27/08 - Janice returning again to Kenya on May 30, 2008 to make final preparations to begin raising orphaned children.
- 4/28/08 - Returned from Kenya. Accomplishments: Gave out 100 pairs of shoes and ~20 Bibles. Partially furnished the 1st
orphanage building. Met with the future "momma" of the orphaned children, planted security foliage around the fence of the property. Planning to be raising up to 6 children in ~3 months.
- 4/17/08 - Phil, Janice and a friend travelling to Kenya with ~100 pairs of shoes.
- 1/14/07 - Janice returned from Kenya after final inspection of the
COMPLETED FIRST BUILDING! We now have a place to raise orphaned children.
- 7/8/07 - 7/28/07 - Phil visited Kenya. Began construction on first orphanage building. Expected completion November, 2007.

- 11/14/06 - Janice returned to Kenya and gained government approvals to begin construction of buildings for children's orphanage.
- 5/27/06 - Phil, Janice and two others returned from Kenya having built an 1,800 ft. fence
around the planned orphanage complex.
- 1/25/06 - Phil and Janice returned from Kenya after having met with the architect and builder on the land. Gave clothing and the love of God to children and adults.
- 9/30/05 - Janice returned from Kenya. Purchased additional 2.3 acres of land for the children's orphanage.
This makes a total of almost 8.5 acres! Now we can proceed with the construction as the Lord provides.

- 7/30/05 - Phil returned from 10 day trip to Sri Lanka. Partnered with Mission of Mercy. Purpose of trip was to sew seeds of labor
into the construction of a new children's home. Mission accomplished!
- 2/4/05 - Received title for 6 acres of land for the planned children's orphanage.
- 1/16/05 - Janice returning to Kenya for 2 weeks.
- 3/8/03 - Phil and Janice returned to Kenya. Gave 230 pairs of shoes, clothing, Bibles to orphans in Naivasha. Ten children accepted Jesus. Gave clothing to Pokot in Nakuru area.
- 1/16/02 - Through The Storm selected by KSBJ to be the featured ministry at the Michael W. Smith/3rd Day concert in Houston at the Compaq Center.
- 9/24/02 - New conceptual painting of the planned orphanage complex in Kenya was done by a friend.
- 3/7/02 - Phil and Janice Wagner ordained as ministers of the Gospel by God's Word In Action Church.
- 9/15/01 - Back from Nairobi, Kenya.�Gave out 500 pairs of shoes, 95 bibles and clothing in the Kibera slums in Nairobi
. More than 100 children and several adults accepted salvation through Jesus the Lord.
- 9/8/01 - Leaving for Nairobi, Kenya.� Taking shoes, clothing, bibles and the Gospel.
- 7/17/01 - Kenyan Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) status has been approved for Through The Storm International in Kenya.� This allows us to import goods into Kenya duty free.� More important, this allows us to own land in Kenya (to build the orphanage on.)
- 7/2/01 - Solidified plans to return to Kenya on September, 10, 2001.
